Smart Tech
with Johnson Controls
SCHEDULELINK
Johnson Controls’ headquarters is the “smartest building in Ireland”. Demonstrating the full range of possibilities that smart, connected Internet of Things (IoT) technology can offer across security, fire prevention, HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) and building management, you will be tasked with finding patterns in behaviour–such as where employees congregate and when–to make decisions about how to best use spaces and environments as Johnson Control staff return to in-person work.
First things first!
Before joining us, we have some requests!
Just have a pen and paper handy. We’ll need you to download one or two things too but we can talk about those bits on Monday.
We will share the slides & information from the sessions
in the dropbox folder below.
From Supply Chain Management to Engineering, Finance and more,
the Johnson Controls internship program gives interns access to
a global corporate job experience that sets them on a successful
career path. Hear what our interns value most.
Who are we, anyway? Let us introduce ourselves before we meet you!
Andrea – I am an IT Business Analyst in the Commercial & Services side of Johnson Controls. My role consists on working with the business to understand their needs and then working with development teams on delivery. I’m from Cork originally and studied BIS undergrad in MUT and then my Masters in UCC. I enjoy going to the gym and socializing with friends!
Sam – I’m the Compliance Education Project Manager for Johnson Controls. Part of my job includes keeping track of the various compliance trainings that we deploy to the 60,000+ online employees in the company and working on trainings for the offline employees. Prior to this I was a Senior Information Developer in Johnson Controls and was there for over 5 years, allowing me to get to know a lot of different products in the company! I also coordinated the Cork Women in Technology program in Johnson Controls, which involves working with transition year students for 6-9 months of the year.
Sarah – I’m a Software Development Manager and Product Owner with Johnson Controls. I have over 20 years of experience in the tech industry as a software engineer, mostly coding and bug squashing 🙂 As product owner I get to work with customers and stakeholders, listen to their feedback and bring this back to my team so we can continually improve and build products that our customer’s love! As a software dev manager I get to look after a team of engineers, working through any problems they are facing, making sure they are free to concentrate on the code and hopefully have some fun along the way! I live in Cork with my husband and our two young boys.
Doireann – I’m a Senior Information Developer (technical writer) specializing in patents. I support the Open Blue products and the Cork site generally. My job is to look for ideas and product features that might be valuable inventions, talk to the inventors to understand and help develop those ideas, and then document them in a way that can be understood and evaluated by JCI. I live in East Cork with my boyfriend, a dog and two cats, and an exploding collection of rare tropical houseplants.
Aideen – I’m the IT Director for Commercial Delivery, EMEALA and APAC in Johnson Controls which means that I look after the design, build, test and deployment of the JCI Sales and Marketing software. I live in Cork and have two daughters, two dogs and one goldfish.
Martin – I’m a manager of an embedded software team in JCI. I previously worked in Motorola, Alcatel, Philips, and two start-ups.
Clodagh – UX Designer, travel photographer and loving mother to several pairs of shoes. I started in physical product design, transitioned to digital user experiences, and am especially passionate about projects that integrate both (e.g. wearable Tech/ Internet of Things).
Marie – I’m an Information Developer for the Retail business unit in Johnson Controls, which means that I write materials that explain how to use and maintain hardware and software products for stores and shopping centres. I joined Johnson Controls in January 2021 and previously interned at SAP. I’m originally from Galway. I just finished a Masters degree in Technical Communication and E-Learning and now I mostly spend my evenings dying in Zelda.
Bhakti – I am a Software Engineer with a Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence. I create building security applications and deliver data-driven stories to further optimize the performance of building security systems. I live in Cork, and my hobbies and interests include exploring new places and photography. I love taking pictures of the simple aspects of life which we often tend to overlook.
